How Dose SDIC Deploy Chainway RFID Readers to Manage Coal Trucks

Background

SDIC (State Development & Investment Corp., Ltd.), established in 1995, is a state-owned investment holding company approved by state council. Infrastructure-related industry, namely energy industries such as power generation and the development of strategic and rarely-existed mineral resources is one of its four strategic business sectors. The power plant is visited by tens of thousands of coal trucks every day. There needs to be records no matter when trucks arrive at the entrance, the weigh counter or the loading zone. Manual operations can never satisfy the needs, which urges the corporation to adopt a more effective tool to manage trucks and coal.

Challenges

  • Taking notes manually is time-consuming and error-prone. Trucks move slow as it takes too much time to write down every detail on site.

  • That data need to be transcribed to computers may lead to unconscious errors again. Besides, it is hard to avoid transcribers cheating, which may cause huge loss to SDIC all the year round

  • Because of the lack of unique electronic ID of trucks, the coal weight sometimes mismatches with the truck who transports them there.

Solutions

Facing these challenges, SDIC turned to Chainway for help. Chainway recommended the C5000 handheld computer with HF RFID function along with a complete RFID solution. Each truck is assigned with a HF RFID card as their unique identity, at the same time basic information of this vehicle is written into the card. Add needed data when trucks arrive at the entrance, the weigh counter or the loading zone by using C5000 handheld to read the unique card. All recorded data can be synchronized to the backend server under the connection of WIFI or 3G network, smoothly and expediently.

Effects

  • Data recording becomes more efficient, so coal trucks now move faster than ever before.

  • Intelligent data capture at each key step standardizes workflows.

  • The accuracy of coal weight and other data is increased extremely. Cheating behaviors are reduced as many as possible.

  • Wireless data transmission eliminates repetitive work of transcribing, cuts down errors and omissions, and saves economic loss.
