Cold Chain Equipment Manufacturer Cooperates with Chainway to Raise Productivity

Background
This limited liability company is specialized in manufacturing a wide range of cold chain equipment. To ensure product quality, checkpoints are set in each key step of all production lines. Substandard equipment found should be sent back for repair, at the same time, the model number, exact problem, name of QC and other details should be written down. These records are also regarded as proof for staff performance assessment. Manual operations leave opportunity for cheating and mistakes, which is detrimental to workshop coordination and efficiency.

Challenges

  • Taking down repair details and inbound & outbound warehouse flow by pen and paper usually results in inaccuracy. It is challenging to obtain real production rate.

  • It is inefficient to assess QC (quality controller), and difficult to sum up yield of each batch. This will affect how department heads make overall plans, eventually doing harm to workshop productivity.

  • There are various products and each goes through multiple procedures, which increases difficulty to learn the real-time status of each product.

  • The problem of statistic data being distorted leads to unpromising revenue.

Solutions
Chainway C5000 handheld computers are introduced and deployed by this manufacturer. HF RFID tag and 1D barcode are first attached to each product as its unique identity. QC uses C5000 to scan barcodes or read RFID tags to add electronic records when products need repairing, or move into/out of the warehouse or when they are packed as finished products. These records can all be soon transmitted to the backend server via WIFI, so that department heads can have real-time access to real-time status of every product.

Effects

  • The accuracy of records has been lifted a lot. And the workload of each assembly-line worker is clear at a glance.

  • The whole process becomes smarter for the management team. They can check real-time status of products, learn yield of each batch and then make strategic adjustments.

  • The manufacturer now has real-time control of production cycle as well as adjust high-risk production procedures.

  • Eventually the deployment of Chainway handheld computers helps enhance productivity of production lines and then improve revenue for the manufacturer.
