FOOD/ITEM TRACEABILITY|ASIA|

RFID-based Trace And Track Of Fresh Meat Processing

Background
Food safety issues occur from time to time nowadays, which have attracted more of people’s attention. One of the main reasons is that it becomes a headache for slaughterhouses to collect data under the complicated industry background. It takes time and steps to record data by adopting traditional method, making the safety issues hard to be traced. This problem has been an obstacle to establish a sound traceability system, and it will be if nothing has been done. How to better obtain and retrieve data is the focus we should attach importance to.

Challenges

  • Several batches of livestock are sent for slaughtering daily. It is difficult to distinguish which comes first and which later, which may result in meat spoilage.

  • It is a great concern that the health conditions of butchers cannot be checked and monitored effectively.

  • Mistakes and cheats avail themselves of every opportunity to come when weight and quantity data are recorded by pens and papers. Data are not always authentic.

  • Department heads have no clear general idea about the whole operation in real time.

Solutions
Shenzhen Chainway Information Technology Co., Ltd has come up with an effective solution for this slaughterhouse in Guangxi, China. All livestock first receive a LF RFID tag as their unique ID card. Slaughterhouse can record whatever information it requires easily by waving Chainway C4000 to read LF tags during each key step. All data captured are sent to the backend server via WIFI or 3G connection. In the same way, department heads are allowed to track and check every step from slaughter to finished goods on remote computers, making management to be more responsive.

Effects

  • Thanks to the deployment of Chainway C4000 mobile computers, now the slaughterhouse can collect and upload key data as convenient as possible. All batches of meat products are delivered in order, based on the first-in first-out principle.

  • That the tags record info of slaughterhouse and farmer makes it possible to track and trace if there are safety issues.

  • Every step is well documented, helping to improve food safety and maximize corporate’s social benefits.

  • This reduces the labor intensity, raises productivity, and lifts information management quality of the slaughter house.
