Field Mobility | Automatic Meter Reading in Serbia

Serbian largest gas company deployed Chainway handheld computers for automatic meter reading (AMR) in its national gas network.

DP Novi Sad Gas (Novi Sad) owns and operate the natural gas network in Serbia and distributes natural gas to millions of homes and businesses across the country. As the largest natural gas supplier, it has been looking for new technologies to make gas delivering and management more reliable and efficient. Automating meter reading is the major part of this effort.

Shenzhen Chainway Information Technology Co., Itd (Chainway), the leading manufacturer of IoT devices including RFID/barcode handheld computers and telematics vehicle-mounted computers, offer Novi Sad RF-enabled handheld computers. RF stands for radio frequency, which can receive meter readings automatically from an AMR capable meter.

RF-based meter reading eliminates the inconvenience of meter readers entering private properties, or locating and opening an underground meter pit. Carrying a handheld computer, meter reader walks by the locations where meters are installed as they go through their meter reading route.

Besides high-performance RF reader, Chainway handheld computer is also equipped with industry-leading barcode scanner and autofocus camera. If a meter does not reply to radio signals, meter reader will scan the 1D barcode on this meter with Chainway handheld computer to have its series number and manually enter readings under this number. And the meter reader will check whether the meter or the pipeline needs maintenance. If so, he can make notes on Chainway handheld computer with a photo showing the problem.

The flow of real-time data makes grid connected and smart. Chainway has helped utility companies in Asia and Europe facilitate the meter reading and utility maintenance process. Focusing on IoT technologies such as RFID and barcoding, Chainway will always be dedicated to providing rugged industrial terminals for field mobility.
