Background Azerbaijan water company is responsible for water supply in the country. Sometime before, the company was depending upon a manual water meter reading process. The system was time-consuming and subject to errors. Thus, the company was facing financial issues due to the lack of proper inspection and supervision. Finally, the water company found a new technology to read the water meters automatically without any errors and delay.
Challenges
The manual process of meter reading was costly, time-consuming and unreliable.
Employee record the meter’s data manually, so it was easier to manipulate the data.
Due to the manual process, there was often delay in an emergency situation.
Solution Water company found RFID technology suitable for this purpose. The company management contacted Chainway corporation for implementation of RFID based solution. Under this solution, RFID cards were attached to every water meter. The Company employee could read and write the information on these cards with the help of Chainway’s C5000 mobile computer. C5000 mobile computer was integrated with a wireless network so that all the captured data from water meter could be transferred directly to the company database in real-time. With all the available data, company administration could analyse and identify any problem in a particular zone. Effects
RFID solution is fast and accurate which is why company required fewer people in the meter reading process.
This system has achieved 100% accuracy as all the data is transferred electronically.
Real-time data is available for administration to take corrective action timely.
Now it becomes easier to anticipate the water requirement of a resident by analyzing the water consumption patterns.
In case of emergencies such as pipeline leakage or water blockage, the company can be informed quickly. Thus, minimum wastage of water can be ensured.
