Barcode Based Solution for Production Line

Background
Panasonic is the biggest group manufactures electronic items in Japan. With more than 230 offices across the world, the company has listed in Fortune 500 companies list. Panasonic has a variety of products and large manufacturing plan with state-of-the-art product line. Thus, the company feels the need to manage the production line to improve production efficiency.

Challenges
  1. The company has similar products which were difficult to distinguish manually from other products and many times end up with errors.
  2. Every production line has its own manual process of managing inventory management. It was difficult to manage the inventory notification to place the orders. It was a time-consuming process.
  3. Manual Inventory management process could not control the misuse and theft of raw material which could lead to economic losses for enterprises.

Solution
Chainway coordinated with Panasonic management to offer a better solution to face the production line related challenges. Chainway deployed its C4050 mobile computers to manage raw material stock maintenance. Before supplying the raw material to the production line, it is needed to be scan with C4050 mobile computer. A barcode label is pasted on raw material with complete details such as item code, item name, production line detail etc. A mobile computer can scan this barcode and automatically assign the raw material to respected production. Simultaneously, these mobile computers update the inventory in the main database by using a wireless network.

Effects
  1. The new solution ensures the smooth running of the production line by managing the regular supply of material and timely order notifications.
  2. The raw material information system is completely automatic now. The main database can identify and update the raw material requirement.
  3. Earlier, the manual process was subjected to error, misuse, and theft. But the automatic system has effectively improved these issues and also decrease the operational cost.
