Jewelry Management Solution with UHF Mobile Computer

 Background
Jewelry management is the most important part of every jewelry store. But it is too complicated to track all the jewelry items every day. In this view, a big jewelry store chain in China decided to adopt an automatic solution for effectively and accurately manage all the jewelry stock in stores.

Challenges
  1. The manual process of stock tacking was time-consuming and subject to higher chances for errors.
  2. Instead of entertaining the customers, staff usually engaged in jewelry tracking and maintain the stock.
  3. There were great losses due to jewelry theft. The manual system was not full proof to control the theft cases.
  4. In the absence of real-time access to the inventory data. It was difficult to maintain the jewelry stock at each store.

Solution
Chainway suggested an RFID solution for inventory management where each jewelry items such as a ring, necklaces, and bracelets were tagged with a UHF tag. These tags were written with information like item code, price, discount, and specifications etc. Chainway C72 device was adopted to read and write these RFID tags. C72 mobile computer was equipped with a UHF module which could be used for stock tacking. An operator could update all the item in display and in stock just by a wave this mobile computer from a distance of five meters. The data captured by the mobile computer could easily be updated in the backend database on a real-time basis.

Effects
  1. After execution of the RFID solution, a salesperson can spend more time with customers, instead of maintaining the stock.
  2. Store management significantly reduces the operational expenses by controlling the unnecessary inventory and reduce labour cost on manual inventory management.
  3. Stock tacking process is very easy now, it hardly takes a few minutes to count all the items in the store. Earlier it took hours to count the items with great risk of mistake.
  4. With the help of real-time data of all the stores, Central management can observe the stock position and transaction at each store.
