How a Russian Retail Store Get 100% Inventory Visibility after Implementing a Barcode Technology

BACKGROUND
Retail stores all over the world have come up with creative concepts. Among them, beauty and health are the latest one from Russian based store called 1B.ru. The store has a wide range of products from high-end cosmetics to medical products. 1B.ru is very popular in Russia because of its superior quality products, competitive prices, and convenient locations. The store has the image of a comfortable shopping experience. Therefore, store management decided to replace its manual process of stock management with a barcode-based solution, which could enhance the customer's satisfaction with easy access to the products with minimum shopping time.

CHALLENGES
  1. It was difficult to locate the inventory manually, as there was a wide range of products in the inventory.
  2. Management often deals with a shortage of inventory because the manual process was more prone to errors.
  3. Real-time visibility of goods was not possible. Which is why management could not quickly access specific product demanded by the customers.
  4. All the data was stored in a fixed PC. In the event where the computer is corrupted. The data could not be recovered.
  5. It was difficult for the marketing team to developed an effective marketing strategy. Because customer data was not available in real-time.
SOLUTIONS
Chainway’s C5000 was selected by 1B.ru team. C5000 mobile computer was integrated with barcode scanners and it could identify goods by scanning the barcode label pasted on it. The items form different merchandises could be sorted and store in inventory. Workers with C5000 devices could easily locate and match the items on real-time bases. All the captured data could be uploaded on the backend database with the help of a wireless network.

Effective Sorting
Company had many warehouses and each warehouse used to receive thousands of items every day. Manual entry of each item was very difficult. With the help of the C5000 mobile computer, a worker could sort the items automatically.
Information Inquiries – Barcode solution made it easy for administration and customer to get access to real-time information. Administration can access any information by choosing an item code in mobile computer and customer can find the specific products on the official site by entering the item code number.

Quick access
All the items reached the warehouses in the cartoon. These cartoons were attached with a unique barcode label with the product details such as name, category, quantity, and prices etc. An operator with the mobile computer can capture the barcode details and update in the backend database. The scanned items can be stored in a predefined location in the warehouse.

EFFECTS
  1. Manual process has been converted into hi-tech warehousing management, where inventory operation is not performed automatically.
  2. Handwritten records are now replaced with electronic data management, which is fast and accurate. The management has eliminated manual errors.
  3. The management has abled to reduce the operational cost by saving the man-hours.
  4. Store management can optimize the inventory by maintaining the proper stock and avoid a stock-out situation.
  5. Now the customer has access to product information. It has increased customer loyalty and satisfaction.
