Background Few years before, Lebanon was considered as war Zone but right after the end of the war, many reconstruction projects were materialized by the state government. The aim was to modernize the government institutions and restore the public services as fast as possible. One of the government institutions known as Liban Post was given a charge to restore and modernize the postal services in the country. This was one of the common systems to transport important documents such as driving license, passport and id cards etc. To ensure the safe delivery of these documents, the administration proposed a barcode-based technology solution.
Challenges
The existing system was not able to track the parcel, which leads to customers dissatisfaction.
In the manual procedure, there was no security of consignments. Management could not find out the error on any specific step.
Solution Liban post consulted with Shenzhen Chainway Information Tech. Co. Ltd. to deploy an automatic networking system to track & trace every parcel within the territory of Lebanon. Therefore, Chainway implemented a solution in which a 2D barcode labels pasted on every parcel. Postmen, with the help of Chainway’s mobile computer, scanned these barcoded parcels and his own fingerprint to confirm the delivery had been done by him. These mobile computers were connected with a wireless network which facilitates the real-time update of the parcel data in the back-end database.
Effects
Now every movement of the parcel could be tracked online. Liban Post offered live tracking services to its customers which further enhance customer satisfaction.
Missing parcel could be located easily. With real-time tracking of each step, the administration could identify the step at which a particular parcel got to miss.
Not only parcel but management can keep a track of all the postmen who are responsible for delivery of parcels. Management can check if all the posts are delivered within schedule time.
