These distribution centres are the lifeline for Allied Express. Therefore, the company looks over to improve the operational efficiency of the distribution channels with the help of modern technology.
Challenges
Real-time access to the information was not possible, so workers could not identify which shipment need to be ready for delivery.
In the absence of real-time information, specific consignment could not be traced. It was difficult for management to locate the step where the parcel got miss or interchanged.
Manual process required more labour which led to high operational cost and time consumption.
Solution Chainway Information Technology Company proposed a barcode base solution, in which every item was labelled with a barcode. These barcodes encoded with a unique id and save all the information of respected item such as item name, quantity, dispatch location etc. Workers at distribution centres carried Chainway’s C4050 handheld computers. These mobile computers helped in scanning the item’s barcode and updated the status in the main database.
Effects
The whole consignment of different items can be delivered in a short notice. The mobile computers can easily scan the barcode labelled on a pallet of items.
The mobile computer is connected with a wireless network which carries all the scanned data to the backend server. Management at any point is able to track consignment on a real-time basis. It facilitates a quick action in case of any bottleneck scenario.
Timely delivery of consignment reflects the company image among its customers. New process improved the operation efficiency of delivery which further improved the company image and economical operation expenses.
