RFID Based All-In-One Card solution for Universities
Background In the past few years, many universities have adopted the latest technologies for their campuses. Instead of implementing a variety of solution for the different department, now universities are focussing on implementing an all-in-one solution for the whole campus. Campus IC card solution is the latest one which mainly consists backend server, inductive RF IC card, and mobile computers. The cards issued to the students can be used for multiple purposes such as student verification, payment, library, computer lab, school buses, swimming pools, time & attendance etc.
Challenges
Usually, students in campus carry separate cards for different departments such as a library, school buses, meal etc. Managing all the cards is a very hectic task for the student. Even university management spend lots of time in managing and integrating separate database from various department.
Because of a number of cards, students lost or forget the cards many times.
Real-Time data management can’t be realized.
University use a number of fixed readers for each department which further increase the implementation and maintenance cost.
Solution Considering the above-mentioned issues expressed by universities in China, Chainway corporation suggested C71/C5000 mobile computer for RFID cards base solution. As the name suggests, all-in-one cards were used for every department whether it was library, school bus, canteen, attendance & identification etc. University staff used the mobile computer to scan student cards which made the student identification and payment very fast and accurate. Data from all the department stored real-time in a central server to update student records. It helped the administration to get all the information of particular student on a single sheet.
Effects
It becomes convenient for student and administration to verify and makes payment through all in one card.
Operational efficiency of administration has improved many folds as new process facilitates a single window to verify student identification. Hence administration expenditure has also reduced.
With the implementation of the latest technology, the university enhances its prestige among universities. Now more students express their interest to enroll in the university.
