Latest Ticket Inspection Process for Transit Railway

Rail transport is the best mode of traveling for every passenger and Hong Kong Mass Transit Railway (MTR) has proven this fact with its world-class services, passenger’s safety, and reliability. With the vision of adopting the latest technology for better services, MTR collaborated with Chainway for introducing a smart ticket checking solution with the handheld computer.
 

Challenges
  • Manual Ticket inspection process was time-consuming and ineffective which necessitated high budget on manpower. This process was not suitable for passengers as well as MTR management.
  • MTR had to bear financial losses occur due to incapability of counterfeit tickets identification.
  • Data analysis of tickets was not possible due to deficit in real time monitoring of tickets.

Solution
MTR found Chainway’s C5000 handheld computer model proved to be more suitable for the ticket inspection process. For this, Chainway customized C5000 model with additional features and changed the model appearance with an ergonomic design. The device was deployed for the ticket inspection process for first class and second class coaches. All the data related to ticket management was automatically installed on this PDA and updated data was transferred to ticket management data server immediately with the help of Wi-Fi.
 

Applications
Ticket inspection – TTE uses the device for inspection by scanning the ticket in running train and will identify if a ticket is valid or not.
Data Analysis – Data analysis on PDA is more convenient and accurate than a manual process.
Ticket Management – Updated ticket data is available to PDA on real-time. TTE can identify the vacant seat any time and reallocate to the same to a needed passenger on a real-time basis with an update to the ticket management server.

  • Operational cost and efficiency is raised with the help of PDA deployment.
  • Passenger satisfaction has increased many folds with less time consumption in the ticket verification process.
  • Least manpower is needed to manage the passengers now.
