Laundry Management for Elis

Background
Elis is is one of the world's largest providers of textile rental and hygiene services solutions. It is listed on Euronext. Present in present in 28 countries across Europe and Latin America, it employs 45,000 professionals currently at 440 production and service centers, with more than 400,000 clients worldwide. The laundry center is faced with the handling of thousands of customers' workwear, towels, tablecloths and bed sheets every day. As a result, it is a huge challenge to manage inventory and washing processes.
 
Challenges
  • There are a variety of kinds of linens, and it requires a lot of manpower and time by the traditional sorting method, which is low efficient and error-prone.
  • Due to the complexity of the business, there are many missing items during laundry processing each year, causing considerable losses to the company.
  • For particular clients like the hospital, due to the awareness of cross-infection, the number of linens to be washed cannot be easily counted, and it will cause commercial disputes with clients when handing over.
  • Each step of the washing processes cannot be accurately monitored, and it is prone to be omitted. Washed linens cannot be classified and it is not possible to precisely arrange the minimum safe stock of each kind of linen.
  • It is not possible to effectively track the data about washing processes, washing times, stock level, effective sorting for each piece of linen.

Solution
Based on RFID technology, Chainway empowers Elis with C72 UHF smart handheld terminal for intelligent laundry management of linens. The laundry staff uses Chainway C72 to scan UHF tags on linens to capture data of flows like receiving, transfer, sorting, put-away, inventory counting of linens. The data of each process is collected automatically and uploaded to the back-end system via wifi in real time. It helps laundry staff grasp the real-time data of each step of the cloth circulation, washing times, washing costs, the number and expense of rental for each client. The whole process of laundry management is visualized to provide real-time data support for scientific management of enterprises.
 
Effects
  • With the application of Chainway C72 intelligent terminal, it automatically identifies linens and supports data collection in bulk with high efficiency and accuracy, which greatly reduces the cost of manpower in the linen sorting.
  • Cleaning times of the linens can be accurately counted and uploaded to the system for analysis, which can effectively predict the service life of each piecc of linen. It is convenient for planning in advance and timely replacement to ensure a necessary stock level, greatly reducing the replenishment time caused by the loss or damage of linens.
  • Chainway C72 UHF RFID reader can collect real-time data of linens and upload it to the background management system. The dynamic inventory data can be seen at a glance, which easily helps Elis to realize the efficient inventory management.
  • It can effectively track the information of each piece of linen and the corresponding responsible person, reducing the occurrence of loss and theft, and unnecessary economic losses of the enterprise.
